How to Getting to Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls does have it's own airport, but it's mostly used for air cargo and private charter planes. If you're coming by plane, you'll most likely be landing at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport or the Toronto International Airport.
Whether you're flying in, coming by train, or arriving by bus you will need to rent a car. The City of Niagara Falls isn't huge, but the cute little trams and trolleys don't take you every place you'll want to go. You'll want to have a car to get around the area.
Renting a Car at the Buffalo Airport and Driving to Niagara Falls
The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is about 35 minutes from Niagara Falls. If you rent a car at the airport, here's how you'll get to Niagara Falls:
- Follow the signs to leave the airport and make a right onto Genessee Street.
- Hop on the 33-West Expressway (Just a short distance after you got on Genessee)
- After about a mile, get off on the first exit (90-E). (You'll be headed east on the New York State Thruway.)
- Follow the 90-E for about a mile.
- Get onto the 290-W. (You'll be following the big signs that say, "Niagara Falls")
- Stay on the 290 for about 10 miles.
- Get onto the 190-N. (Follow the signs to "Grand Island")
- Shortly after you get on the 190-N, you'll see a super-huge bridge (South Grand Island Bridge). You'll pay a $1 toll, then you'll travel over the Niagara River onto Grand Island. (You'll still be on the 190-N.)
- Drive along scenic Grand Island until you get to another huge bridge (North Grand Island Bridge). It'll take you over the river and off Grand Island. Don't worry-- no toll this time.
- And, when you get to the end of the North Grand Island Bridge get off right away. Don't miss the exit-- it's a little tiny exit with a sharp turn at the base of the bridge.
- When you get off the bridge and exit, you'll get right onto the "Robert Moses Parkway." This is the expressway that'll take you right into the heart of downtown Niagara Falls.
